BHAIRAHAWA, May 21: Compensation amount for land to be acquired for Gautam Buddha International Airport has been fixed.
Coordinator of Compensation Fixation Committee and Chief District Officer of Rupandehi, Binod Prasad Singh, fixed the compensation amount for 430 bigha of land to be acquired for the airport expansion project. As per the rates finalized by the committee, the government will have to pay about Rs 23 billion to different landholders.
Landholders have already handed over their land plots to the project. Land acquisition has displaced 615 households in the area. Most of the land plots acquired for the project are farmland.
The government has already acquired another 70 bigha for this national pride project.
The committee has fixed compensation amount at Rs 2.64 million to Rs 9.18 million per kattha depending on different factors like proximity to main road and other infrastructure. Likewise, compensation amount for land plot not connected to road has been fixed between Rs 1.2 million and Rs 2.5 million per kattha. Similarly, compensation amount for mud and mortar house has been fixed at Rs 760 per square feet, while compensation amount for cemented house is Rs 3,000 per square feet.
The government will pay additional Rs 300,000 for each enterprise in the acquired land. Similarly, petrol pumps in the acquired land will be paid compensation of Rs 500,000.
According to Singh, compensation amount for enterprises with investment of Rs 2 million and above is Rs 200,000. Similarly, enterprises with investment below Rs 50,000 will receive Rs 25,000 as compensation.
Landowners will have to submit ownership documents within 35 days to receive the compensation.
