KATHMANDU, June 9: The government is preparing to loosen the prohibitory orders enforced in the Kathmandu Valley to some extent after June 14.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is currently collecting reports of COVID-19 from the districts across the country with the view of loosening the prohibitory orders enforced to curb the further spread of COVID-19, according to the spokesperson for the ministry, Janakraj Dahal. “The ministry is planning to ease the prohibitory orders after receiving suggestions,” he added. “However, the government won’t lift the prohibitory orders completely. It will be loosened gradually, with some restrictions still in place even after June 14.”

The government is mainly mulling over allowing farmers to engage in agricultural activities adopting proper COVID-19 safety protocols as the rainy season is approaching, according to Dahal.

In recent days, the number of recoveries recorded daily is almost double than the new cases of COVID-19 and the COVID-19 death rate is also declining gradually.

The government has already given the authority to enforce and lift prohibitory orders and lockdowns in the districts to the district administration offices.

“We cannot neglect the COVID-19 safety protocols. The COVID-19 risk is still high. We need to stay extra cautious for more than a month to come, said Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, assistant spokesperson for the health ministry.

Currently, 75 of the 77 districts in Nepal are under prohibitory orders enforced to curb the further spread of COVID-19 except Manang and Khotang.
