KATHMANDU, July 25: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has decided to punish those manpower agents who take passports from individuals before they are selected for foreign employment.

“We have received complaints from customers regarding manpower agents taking passports before employment selection, not sending candidates for foreign employment, and charging service fees when collecting passports. We request manpower agents not to engage in such practices,” reads a press note issued by DoFE on Thursday.

DoFE has warned that any manpower agent engaged in such activities will be punished under the Foreign Employment Act, 2007 (2064).

DoFE has also directed that interviews be conducted on the date and time specified in the advertisement for foreign employment. The department said it has received complaints about interviews being held on dates other than those specified, postponing the interviews and about offices being closed when applicants arrive.

DoFE further stated that it has received complaints that organizations providing orientation training did not comply with the prescribed standards. "Since this situation has been observed during departmental monitoring, we request that organizations conducting the training issue certificates only after providing training according to the prescribed standards, as per the Orientation Training Conduct Procedure, 2076. Otherwise, action will be taken according to the rules,” the release said.
