Govt. to regulate press, not to curtail press freedom: Minister Banskota

KATHMANDU, March 31: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Banskota, has said that control of media sector could not been imagined, but legal arrangement could be made for its regulation.

KATHMANDU, March 31: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Banskota, has said that control of media sector could not been imagined, but legal arrangement could be made for its regulation. 


At a programme organized to the 21st anniversary of Reporters Club Nepal here today, Communications Minister Banskota said the government would bring umbrella act related to communications to make the media sector more systematic and encouraged.

He said, "The incumbent government is formed after the struggle of democratic movements and practice. The government cannot even imagine to curtail press freedom. However, I urge all to criticize the government only after thorough study about its policies. We want to regulate the media sector, not to control it." 


Saying that advertisement policy and clean feed policy have already been formulated, Minister Banskota made it clear that government was not for the policy of shutting down of the social network as Facebook, but for the attempts to bring these networks under the tax ambit.  RSS
