KATHMANDU, Feb 8: District Education Office (DEO), Kathmandu has decided to seek clarification from the school principal who thrashed a ninth grader in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Suresh Kumar Yadav, principal of Lumbini Beginners' Academy, had thrashed ninth grader Sudip Dahal with a pipe on Sunday, leaving nine marks on his legs and thighs. Dhalal, who is a talented student, comes first in his class.
Jaya Acharya, chief of DEO Kathmandu, said that it was seriously concerned about corporal punishment. “So we decided to seek written clarification from Yadav. The letter will be dispatched tomorrow,” he said on Tuesday. “We will also urge the School Management Committee to take action against Yadav.”
Accusing Dahal for not following the steps in the morning assembly at the school ground on Sunday, principal Yadav beat him black and blue, leaving with blue scars in his legs, according to the family members. Sudip was reported to have stomach pain but the principal forced him to follow the physical exercise at the assembly.
When tried to contact Yadav regarding the incident, he did not pick up his phone.
“It's a serious crime. He must be punished as per the criminal law,” said Suprabhat Bhandari, president of the Guardians' Association Nepal.
