Ministry spokesperson Dr Jageshwar Gautam, while speaking during a regular press briefing on Sunday, said that this request has been made amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases throughout the country.

“As a lot of people over 60 are already suffering from diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, they are likely to succumb to COVID-19 if they get exposed to this virus,” said Dr Gautam. “Similarly, children below 12 rarely maintain physical distance and wear masks increasing the risk of the COVID-19 infection.”

According to the data released by the ministry, the infection rate has increased by 0.8 percent after the lifting of the lockdown. The number of deaths, too, has increased sharply.
