KATHMANDU, Sept 27: With the pre-booking of bus tickets for Dashain travelers open from Monday, people have thronged at the New Buspark in Gongabu to book their seats.

The long-distance vehicles, which will take passengers out from the valley starting next week, have opened advance booking of tickets for its passengers. As compared to previous years, the number of people rushing to book their seats to home has significantly dropped as many are still reluctant to travel in public vehicles for fear of the transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last year, there was a limited mobility of people as a result of the prohibitory orders imposed by the government to curb further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most people had chosen to stay in Kathmandu as the government authorities also advised people to celebrate Dashain by staying indoors as far as possible.

Kathmandu-- the federal capital of the country-- is the main destination for students, migrant workers and other professionals. Every year thousands of people head back to their villages to celebrate the Dashain festival with their families, leaving the Kathmandu city almost deserted.
