KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The National Examination Board (NEB) is conducting the board examination of grade 12 students from Tuesday amid the heightened risk of coronavirus infection. The exams will end on December 1.
The NEB is administering the exams based on the Guideline on Evaluation, Exam Operation, Management, Record and Verification of Secondary Education Qualification Examination 2020, according to Chandramani Poudel, chairman of the Board.

He further added that the examinations are being carried out following the health protocol issued by the government to ensure safety of the examinees. “Local governments, examination coordination committees and all the superintendents were duly oriented in this regard.”
Owing to the fears of COVID-19 infection, the exams are being held in home centres seven months after its usual routine. The examination is of one-and-half-hour-long beginning from 8AM. The examination is worth only 40% of the total grade, and the remaining 40% percent will be covered from the cumulative marks obtained in grade 11, and 20 percent from internal evaluation, according to NEB.
There are a total of 4,105 exam centers throughout the country for 433,180 examinees.
The exam centers are required to set up health desks in collaboration with the respective local government and health institutions in a bid to curb the further spread of COVID-19 and ensure no further transmission of virus.
Those breaching the examination rules will be fined upto Rs 100,000 or six months in prison or both.
Meanwhile, Education minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel urged the students to sit in the exams following health safety measures and take the exams without fear. In his four-minute-long video message to the students, he focused on safety measures to avoid the COVID-19 infection.
