NUWAKOT, Dec 17: The bodies of 18 passengers of Sisipu, Nuwakot who died in Friday's mini-truck accident in the district were cremated together as per family customs on Sunday. Altogether 20 passengers died in the accident.
Yobindra Singh Tamang, chairman of Ghyanphedi-7 informed that the family members of deceased Ratesh Pandit performed his cremation rites on Saturday. Similarly, another passenger Shukram Tamang was cremated on Sunday in Kathmandu where he died while undergoing treatment.
One dead, eight injured in truck accident in Dhading
It was heart-wrenching to watch the cremations. Ward chief Tamang informed that the rural municipality has assured to provide Rs 25,000 for the cremation per victim.
A total of 14 passengers injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Memorial Foundation in Kathmandu, TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj and International Friendship Children Hospital at Maharajgunj. The rural municipality has announced to bear the treatment costs of the patients for now and hopes to seek financial support from the provincial and federal government for future expenses.
According to the District Police Office (DPO), Nuwakot, the driver of the truck is still out of contact.
