Gyawali maintains lead of 1399 votes

BHARATPUR, May 26: CPN-UML candidate Devi Gyawali has maintained a lead of 1399 votes over CPN (Maoist Center) candidate Renu Dahal in the mayoral contest in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

BHARATPUR, May 26: CPN-UML candidate Devi Gyawali has maintained a lead of 1399 votes over CPN (Maoist Center) candidate Renu Dahal in the mayoral contest in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.


Dahal had been cutting the vote margin short on Thursday but UML felt some relief after the completion vote count of ward number 24. UML candidates has won all the seats of ward number 24 and increased Gyawali's lead to 1399 from 1235. There were 1759 voters in the ward and it was the smallest ward in Bharatpur in terms of voters' number.

Gyawali has received 33164 votes so far while Dahal has garnered 31765 votes. The vote count of remaining eight wards will decide the fate of Gyawali and Dahal.


More than 25000 votes are yet to be counted in Bharatpur. The office of returning officer in Bharatpur has started counting the votes cast in ward number 16. The ward had cast 5723 votes on the election held on May 14. Locals say that whoever - -Gyawali or Dahal -- leads the ward 16 could win the election.
