KATHMANDU, April 19: The Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) and central trade unions have agreed to implement the increased wages by the government of Nepal.
Some hotels had refrained from providing the increased minimum wage to workers saying that the COVID-19 had badly impacted the industry. According to HAN, it has been decided to provide workers with service, facilities ensured by collective agreement and implement the increased wages by the Government of Nepal.
Trade unions call for revision in minimum wage
The agreement was reached after a joint meeting held between the presidents and representatives of HAN and the three active central level trade unions- Nepal Independent Hotel, Casino and Restaurant Workers’ Union, All Nepal Hotel, Casino and Restaurant Workers’ Union and Nepal Tourism and Hotel Related Workers’ Union.
According to the agreement, in case of any labor dispute arising out of past or future agreements between hotel establishments and workers and employees, the problem will be resolved through central trade unions and HAN.
“The agreements reached during the period of lockdown and prohibitory orders should be implemented by the hotels and establishments which have not implemented and the service charges should be distributed to all the workers who have been called or not called by the establishments,” reads the agreement.
