Health insurance given to the private sector is no longer insurance: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU, August 13: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the government cannot provide health insurance to the private sector.

KATHMANDU, August 13: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the government cannot provide health insurance to the private sector.


While speaking at the Urban Health Promotion Center program in Kathmandu on Saturday, General Secretary Thapa claimed that the health insurance provided by the government to the private sector will not remain as insurance. He said that health insurance is an issue of social health security and the program was introduced with the goal of providing access to health insurance to everyone.

Thapa said that the government can save the health system only if it can reduce the expenditure on the health of citizens. He said that the structures of the health system should be built by reducing the expenditure on health. He said that if the government does not work to create a structure for primary health care, it will not be possible to provide health insurance.


Similarly, he mentioned that there will be no health security by establishing hospitals only if the health system cannot be built by giving the local government important responsibility within the structure of primary health.
