Stating that it is not acceptable to employ nurses without even paying the minimum wage, Minister Giri said such private sector hospitals or health institutions will be monitored and action will be taken based on facts and evidence.

Speaking at the 61st anniversary celebration of the Nursing Association of Nepal held in Kathmandu on Sunday, he said that he had heard the alarming situation where nurses have to work in the private sector for a meager salary of Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 per month and announced that the ministry would immediately monitor all hospitals and health institutions of the private sector to gather facts and evidence.

Minister Giri also warned that the government would be forced to take action against the health institutions that exploit the labor of nurses. He also instructed health institutions including private sector hospitals to arrange online payment for nurses.

Minister Giri said, “Currently I heard that there is a situation where nurses have to work in the private sector for Rs 8,000 or 10,000. This is a matter of great concern. I would like to say from this point of view that employing and exploiting labor without giving even minimum wage, salary and allowance cannot be right at any cost. It can't be considered fair. Such organizations, private hospitals and health institutions will be well monitored by the ministry. And, we will take necessary action against such organizations.”
