KATHMANDU, May 12: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has directed health workers across the country to get ready to assist voters during the local body elections on May 14.
“The ministry has directed all the districts to deploy health workers for the polls,” said Jeevan Bhandari, press advisor to Health Minister Gagan Thapa. “Health workers have been asked to be ready with necessary kits including medicines, equipment and technologies to provide health services at polling stations,” said Bhandari. “The health workers are also requested to be ready for emergency treatment,” he added.
The first phase local polls are being held on May 14 at 6,642 polling centers in 283 local units including four metropolitan cities, one sub-metropolitan city, 92 municipalities and 186 rural municipalities in three provinces -- 3, 4 and 6 in 34 districts of the country. The polling stations are generally located at schools in all the provinces throughout the country.
The second phase of elections have been scheduled for June 14 in the remaining local units out of the total 744 local bodies of provinces 1, 2, 5 and 7 in 41 districts. A total of 36,539 representatives will be elected from all the 744 local units across the country.
