KATHMANDU, Feb 29: More than half of the children diagnosed with measles in Nepal have not received the measles-rubella vaccine, as reported by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).
According to the MoHP, 55 percent of children with confirmed measles have not received the measles-rubella vaccine.
21 percent of pregnant women in Karnali are children
This data spans from November 19, 2022 to November 30, 2023. During this period, laboratory tests confirmed measles in 1,349 patients, one of whom died. Of those diagnosed, 74 percent were between nine months and 15 years, while the remaining cases were in the age group of nine months and five years.
The health ministry has mentioned that most of the measles outbreaks have been observed in Terai districts bordering India and Kathmandu Valley districts. Currently, a measles-rubella vaccination campaign is underway nationwide. The campaign is set to continue until March 20. This campaign aims to vaccinate 5.7 million children across the country.
