ARGHAKHANCHI, August 16: The treatment of infected inmates in Arghakhanchi Prison is getting difficult for health workers due to the huge number of inmates serving the jail term.
The prison houses twice the number of inmates than its capacity, causing problems in providing treatment to patients, who are infected with the novel coronavirus.
355 inmates at Bhimphedi prison test positive for COVID-19
As many as 60 inmates out of 64 in the prison have tested positive for the deadly virus. Health workers are facing difficulties due to the lack of space inside the prison. They are forced to treat all the infected patients in a single place.
There is no possibility to maintain safe distance due to lack of space and high number of infected persons in the prison. With this, the risk of virus transmission has also increased.
According to Police Inspector Ganesh Khanal, Information Officer at District Police Office, Arghakhanchi, security has been tightened during family visits.
Officials complain that although the concept of open prison has been introduced in the Civil Code Act and the Criminal Code Act, it has not been implemented effectively. Many prisons around the country are heavily crowded with inmates.
