A petition was filed on December 14 by advocate Raviraj Basaula and others, questioning the eligibility of Rabi Lamichhane to be a member of parliament (MP) and calling for the revocation of his position as an MP.

The constitutional bench held a hearing on December 26 and discussed the issue of whether or not to issue an interim order on January 06. The bench had fixed a full hearing for January 25.

The writ petition demands that Lamichhane should not have been allowed to take the oath as a Member of Parliament. Lamichhane has been a subject of controversy due to his involvement in a dual citizenship case.
