KATHMANDU, May 29: The Supreme Court is set to hear a writ petition against the formation of the Koshi Provincial government on Wednesday.
Outgoing Chief Minister (CM) Kedar Karki filed the petition, arguing that the appointment of Hikmat Karki from the CPN-UML as Chief Minister was unconstitutional. Kedar Karki has asked the court to remove the new CM and reinstate him.

Previously, the court had requested responses from the defendants on May 10 and documentation of the CM’s appointment process by May 22.
Province Chief Parshuram Khapung removed Kedar Karki from office after the latter failed to secure a vote of confidence within 30 days following the withdrawal of support to his government by UML lawmakers, as required by the constitution.
