KATHMANDU, Jan 26: A hearing on a writ petition filed against Agni Sapkota, the sole candidate for the post of speaker of the House of Representatives, which was scheduled for today afternoon at the Supreme Court, is likely to be postponed.
On Friday, the writ petition was filed at the apex court by senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi demanding the immediate arrest of Sapkota arguing that a murder-accused is not eligible to become the speaker of the House of Representatives. Seeking a ruling from the court, Tripathi had also demanded to halt the speaker's election process in his writ petition.
Hearing of plea against Agni Sapkota deferred
A single bench of Justice Hari Phuyal was scheduled to conduct hearing on the case today. According to Supreme Court sources, Phuyal now can't conduct the hearing on this particular case against Sapkota because he was one of the lawyers who had pleaded on behalf of the victims in another case filed against Sapkota in the past.
The HoR is announcing Sapkota as its speaker today at 3 pm.
