Hearing on writ petition filed against appointments in constitutional bodies to begin today

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: The Supreme Court is scheduled to begin hearing on the writ petition filed against the appointments made in various constitutional bodies today.


Earlier on Wednesday, Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana had administered oath of office and secrecy to 45 newly-appointed members of various constitutional bodies without any parliamentary hearing.

Taking exception to the move of the government, Speaker of the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR), Agni Prasad Sapkota filed a writ petition against the government’s move on Friday.


Just a few days before the dissolution of HoR, the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had appointed as many as 45 individuals in various constitutional bodies including the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
