The Judicial Council had recommended the 11 names on March 1 but the hearings were not possible for almost five months in the absence of parliamentary regulations.

During the hearings on Wednesday, parliamentarians grilled Karki the most. Karki, who is immediate past chairman of Nepal Bar Association, had served as attorney general just ahead of the recommendation.

The parliamentarians asked him about his political affiliation with the CPN-UML since he had won the NBA election representing a group of lawyers affiliated to the party and was appointed attorney general by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
