KATHMANDU,March 7: Women LEAD Nepal started as an idea that women and girls could change the trajectory of Nepal’s future and development. Since its establishment in 2012, Women LEAD Nepal has been helping young girls explore their potential and reach heights of success.

It has been providing young girls of Nepal with a space to grow in both personal and professional life, turning them into leaders with a vision to change the world. Persuading young women leaders to co- create better Nepal, this NGO is safe heaven to many

young girls.

Women LEAD Nepal currently runs signature leadership and empowerment programs for high-achieving young women. Building on the success of its pilot program in 2010, (a two-week leadership institute), it has now equipped over 2,000 students with the skills, experiences and support needed to become leaders and change-

makers.

Every year 30 young women are selected for the leadership institute where they are enlightened with various life skills, including communication skills, problem solving techniques, self defense and many more. During these two weeks, girls not only equip themselves with the skills needed in the real world but also learn more about themselves.

The discoveries they make within the two week leadership institute help them conduct the School Leadership Program. Two girls are paired together to conduct this program where they share the leadership skills and experience with grade 9 students. During this process, girls learn to embrace their strengths and work on their weakness empowering other generation of young leaders. Young women handle the school authority, conduct session with their students, and convince their student’s parents at the same time staying in school.

The journey of three months of School Leadership Program takes these young women in a whirlwind journey of both success and failure preparing them for the real world. As they see their students graduate from the program, the sudden feeling of pride fills them with the hope of better future of Nepal. And when these young women graduate, they graduate not only with the certificate of excellence but with a vision for better Nepal where women are the co-creators.
