KATHMANDU, May 27: Government officials and representatives from the Indian embassy in Kathmandu jointly inaugurated the Mangala Devi Singh Memorial Girls Hostel Building at Shree Padmakanya Secondary School in Dillibazar, Kathmandu, on Monday. The project, built with financial assistance from the Government of India, cost Rs 32.36 million under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ initiative, reads a statement issued by the embassy.
According to the Indian embassy, the inauguration ceremony was jointly led by Santosh Budathoki, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Kathmandu, and Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The event was attended by political representatives, government officials, social workers, school management representatives, teachers, parents, and students.

The statement added that the four-story hostel building includes 39 rooms and various infrastructure such as a kitchen, dining hall, storerooms, warden room, guard room, visitors room, office room, library, multipurpose hall, waiting area, green room, laundry, toilets, bathrooms, and a solar backup system. This project is part of the High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) agreement between the Governments of India and Nepal and was implemented through the District Coordination Committee, Kathmandu.
Representatives at the event expressed appreciation for India's continued developmental support in priority sectors. The new facilities are expected to enhance the residential and educational environment for the students of Shree Padmakanya Secondary School, contributing to the overall development of education in the region.
Since 2003, the Government of India has undertaken over 551 HICDPs in Nepal, completing 490 projects, including 106 in Bagmati Province and 41 in Kathmandu District. Additionally, India has gifted 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various institutions in Nepal, with significant contributions to Bagmati Province and Kathmandu District.
The implementation of HICDPs demonstrates the ongoing support of the Government of India in improving infrastructure and uplifting communities in Nepal, especially in the education sector.
