KATHMANDU, Nov 20: The 17th International Water Sports Tournament is taking place in the Marsyangdi River from coming Nov 24.
Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) is organizing the three-day event titled, ‘Himalayan Whitewater Challenge’, with the objective of promoting general and adventurous tourism along with promoting rivers of Nepal as the world's best destination for white water rafting and kayaking as well as keep rivers safe for tourism and environment, the NARA said.

Events like 'kayak extreme slalom'; 'down river Race'; 'boater cross' and the ' free style kayaking' are scheduled during the competition, as stated by NARA general secretary Shiba Adhikari.
The tournament also seeks to promote the country's tourism industry through the means of water sports and to enhance the capacities of river guides and water sports athletes.
The Himalayan White Water Challenge is an international event held annually since 2002.
According to general secretary Adhikari, adventurous water tourism remains as one of the major genres of tourism industry in Nepal and the NARA has been organizing such event which will provide an opportunity for Nepali rivers guides based in India, Japan, Dubai, the United States of America, Iceland and the UK to show their talents. Several countries in the world are taking part in the tournament.
