Home Minister Khand meets Dahal and Oli, discusses MCC ratification

KATHMANDU, Feb 23: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand called on chairman of the ruling coalition partner CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal and chairman of the main opposition party CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli this morning to discuss issues including approval of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement tabled in parliament.

KATHMANDU, Feb 23: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand called on chairman of the ruling coalition partner CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal and chairman of the main opposition party CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli this morning to discuss issues including approval of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement tabled in parliament.


According to the Home Minister's Secretariat, Minister Khand met Maoist Center Chairman Dahal at his residence in Khumaltar and UML Chairman Oli at Balkot. During the meeting, they discussed the current political situation in the country including ending the stalemate in the House of Representatives and approving the MCC agreement from parliament.

After the MCC deal was presented in the House of Representatives on February 20, intensive discussions were underway between the ruling party and the opposition parties for the ratification of the compact agreement.


According to the MCC agreement, the deadline for the government to ratify the agreement is February 28 for the ratification of the project. The government has continued its efforts for the formation of a common stance of all political parties for the project’s approval within the deadline.
