Host Army starts with win

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Host Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) has started its Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Third National Men’s Volleyball Tournament with a thumping 3-0 win over Mid-western Region on Sunday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Host Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) has started its Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Third National Men’s Volleyball Tournament with a thumping 3-0 win over Mid-western Region on Sunday.


The holders Army beat Mid-western 25-08, 25-12, 25-14 in the inaugural match played at Army Physical Training and Sports Center in Lagankhel, Lalitpur.

In another match, Western Region overcame Eastern Region 25-17, 25-21, 25-14. With the wins, the departmental team Army and Western collected three points each.


On Monday, other departmental teams Nepal Police Club will play Central Region while Armed Police Force will battle Far-western Region.


Three departmental teams and teams from five development regions are vying in the tournament that is being played in league-cum-knockout format. Divided into two groups, two top-placed teams of each group will advance into quarterfinal. 


The winner of the tournament will bag Rs 300,000 while the runner-up will take home Rs 150,000. The third-placed team will purse Rs 75,000. Likewise, the best spiker, the best blocker, the best defender, the best lifter, and the best coach will get Rs 10,000 each, according to the organizers. 


The tournament will run till February 24.
