KATHMANDU, May 11: The parliamentary State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives on Sunday condemned the unilateral road construction by the Indian government through Lipulekh, a Nepali territory that lies on Nepal’s north-western frontier with China.

During the meeting of the House committee at Singh Durbar, the committee members concluded that the road construction by the Indian side on the sovereign Nepali territory was a sheer infringement on Nepal's territorial integrity.

The committee also asked the government to honor the seven-point directive that it had issued in November last year to safeguard the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. The committee also reminded the government of the execution of a 15-point recommendations it made on April 19 this year.

Also, the committee urged the Indian government to remove its paramilitary forces from Kalapani, a Nepali territory, to respect the next door neighbor's sovereignty and territorial integrity. "The border issues between Nepal and India need to be resolved through diplomatic means," Shasi Shrestha, the committee chairperson said.

Shrestha said that the committee also called on India to avoid incursion on the Nepali territory. "We ask India to pursue its international relations on the basis of the principles of the Panchsheel," she said.
