SAINT-DENIS, France, July 11: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Euro 2016 is over after the Portugal talisman was substituted from the final in Paris with an injury after just 24 minutes.

The Portugal captain hurt his knee following a strong, but fair challenge by France forward Dimitri Payet at the Stade de France.

Ronaldo immediately looked in agony after the tackle but continued to play.

However soon after he collapsed on the turf and tears began to roll down his face. He was treated on the sidelines with his knee being put in strapping before coming back on.

But just minutes later he signalled to the bench that there was no way he could carry on, despite his apparent desperation to do so.

With it dawning on him that his final was definitely over he sat down on the turf and ripped his captain’s armband from his sleeve before giving it to Nani. He was then stretchered from the pitch to a standing ovation from both sets of fans.
