Human settlements in Madi Municipality inundated

CHITWAN, Aug 12: More than a dozen villages in the southern area of Madi Municipality in Chitwan district have been inundated in the flood that occurred due to incessant rain Friday night.

CHITWAN, Aug 12: More than a dozen villages in the southern area of Madi Municipality in Chitwan district have been inundated in the flood that occurred due to incessant rain Friday night. 


According to the District Natural Disaster Management Committee (DNDMC) , Chitwan Resource Person, Balaram Luintel, more than 400 houses in these settlements are recorded to have been inundated. 


More details are awaited, said Resource Person Luintel, adding that no human casualties, however, have been reported yet.

Luintel added that flood in Thada and Reu Rivers entered the human settlements at Banakatta, Amiliya, Simara, Dhobaha and Ratanika among others. 

Around 30-40 houses sustained complete damages while around 200 houses received partial damages, police said. 


The people in these areas have been asked to relocate to safe places as the rescue mission undertaken by the DNDMC in coordination with the security forces is on. 


Floods have also entered the farmland of the locals here, causing damages to crops, according to DNDMC, Chitwan Coordinator Narayan Prasad Bhatta. 

Meanwhile, flood in rivers as Chitayi, Badarmudhe, Ghaghar have caused damage to the roads in various places across the inundated areas. 


Local journalist Govinda Neupane shared that vehicular activities have been disrupted along the Bharatpur-Thori route since today morning due to the damage to the road. 


Floods have also wreaked havoc to many fisheries in the locality and there has been power outage in Madi Municipality for nearly a month, journalist Neupane added. RSS
