KATHMANDU, Aug 24: A protest rally was taken out in Kathmandu against the recent incidents of rising abuse and threats against medicos and the frontline health workers in the ongoing battle against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), in different parts of the country.
The Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) on Monday morning staged a demonstration at Jorpati in the capital, urging the people to show respect to health professionals, cooperate with security personnel and safeguard the media workers in this hour of global crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The participants of the demonstration also asked the authorities to take action against those involved in abusing COVID-19 frontline actors.
Chairman of HURPES, Uttam Pudasaini, advisor Homkant Chaulagain and Kathmandu chapter chair Jagannath Pudasaini stressed the need for extending cooperation to the contribution made by the health, security and media sector.
They urged one and all to acknowledge the service delivery by the professionals in those sectors [health, security and media] at this sensitive hour.
More than one and a half dozen rights activists participated in the demonstration, said Sarita Poudel, the program officer at the society.
