ILAM, April 27: The voting in the Ilam -2 by-elections was held peacefully on Saturday, with vote count expected to begin tonight.
The Office of the Chief Election Officer announced that the vote count will begin once all the ballot boxes are collected at the district headquarters.
The voting took place across 149 centers and 79 polling stations in the region, starting from 7 AM.
Vote count begins in Bharatpur Metropolitan City
Chief Election Officer Keshav Prasad Ghimire said that an all-party meeting will be held once the ballot boxes are collected, after which the counting of votes will start. However, the exact time for the counting of votes has not been decided.
The vote count will take place at the City Hall of Ilam Bazar. Chief District Officer, Indra Dev Yadav, said that it is estimated that the ballot boxes will be collected at the headquarters by 10 PM.
In this by-election in Ilam-2, there were 115,889 voters including 56,869 women and 59,018 men.
Twelve parties and seven independent candidates contested in the by-election for a post in the House of Representatives which has remained vacant since the demise of UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang.
