PARSA, Nov 4: CPN (UML) Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has said the UML, in support of the CPN (Maoist Center), had to move a motion of impeachment against Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lokman Singh Karki as he involved himself in making the constitution a failure by exercising a parallel power.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chautari Nepal, Parsa here today, he accused the CIAA chief (now suspended) of trying to become a ruler by undermining the constitution.

However, the party succeeded in aborting his dream with the introduction of the impeachment proposal against him, he claimed.

Bhattarai went on to say that the issues of constitution amendment and the impeachment against Karki were unrelated, urging the CPN (Maoist Center) and the Nepal Congress to see the matters separately and deal accordingly.

Stating that the constitution amendment was not possible in the absence of the UML's support, he said the CPN (Maoist Center) and NC had not yet consulted the party formally and informally regarding the issue. "However, the party (CPN-UML) is ready to talk with the Madhes-centric parties about the constitution amendment issues." RSS
