Import of coffee increased while export decreased in the last five fiscal years

KATHMANDU, Dec 28: The import of coffee has increased by twofold while its export has decreased by the same amount in the last five years, according to the data of National Tea and Coffee Development Board.

KATHMANDU, Dec 28: The import of coffee has increased by twofold while its export has decreased by the same amount in the last five years, according to the data of National Tea and Coffee Development Board.


In the fiscal year, 2019/20, coffee worth Rs 118.8 million was imported in the country coffee worth only Rs 55.5 million was imported in the fiscal year 2015/16. Similarly, in the fiscal year 2015/16, coffee worth Rs 107.9 million was exported from Nepal whereas the export decreased to Rs 57.7 million in the last fiscal year.

Similarly, in the last five years, Nepal exported 454,600 kg of coffee worth Rs 527.6 million whereas there 1,896,366 kg of coffee worth Rs 388. 6 million was imported in the period.


Likewise, in the first five months of the current fiscal year, coffee, tea, mate and spices worth Rs 4.43 billion were imported in the country while coffee, tea, mate and spices worth Rs 3.9 billion were exported, as per the data published by the Department of Customs.
