ITAHARI, March 23: Inaruwa Municipality has banned the sale of meat and liquor citing maintenance of health and hygiene amid heightening fears of coronavirus outbreak. The decision was taken during a meeting of the municipal office on Sunday.
“Following the decision, the authorities will ensure a ban on sales of meat and liquor in the municipality starting from Sunday itself,” said the mayor Rajan Meheta. “We must be very careful about health and hygiene at this moment,” he added.
Meat products imported basically from India are not considered safe. Fish and chicken brought from India are consumed in a huge quantities in eastern Nepal. According to Meheta, meat products pose risk of infection and should be discouraged at this time.

“Similarly, liquor shops will also be closed for some time,” he added.
The provincial government has already urged the people to stay at home as far as possible. Social gatherings have been discouraged.
The municipality has also put a ban on import of vegetables and fruits from across the border. The ban will be in force until further notice, according to Meheta.
The municipality has warned people to abide by the guidelines regarding safety measures against coronavirus outbreak. This includes closure of markets and unnecessary movement of people.
“We have tried our best to take all possible measures to minimize the risk of coronavirus outbreak. Schools, colleges and other public offices are closed for indefinite period. People have been asked to stay at home and make no unnecessary movement at roads or to markets. They have been given guidelines to follow,” said Meheta.
