Incidents of wildlife attacks increasing in CNP

CHITWAN, Dec 29: Incidents of attacks on people by wild animals have been on the rise in Chitwan. Four people have died and 29 others have been injured in attacks by wild animals in Chitwan National Park (CNP) in the first five months of the current fiscal year, 2021/22.

CHITWAN, Dec 29: Incidents of attacks on people by wild animals have been on the rise in Chitwan. Four people have died and 29 others have been injured in attacks by wild animals in Chitwan National Park (CNP) in the first five months of the current fiscal year, 2021/22.


CNP's Information Officer Ganesh Prasad Tiwari said a person each was killed by rhino, elephant, boar and blue bull in this period. Similarly, four people were injured in an attack by wild elephants, 15 in an attack by rhinoceros, three in an attack by tigers, four in attack by bears, two in attack by boars and one in attack by crocodile during the same period. Among the injured, 16 have minor injuries while 13 have serious ones.

CNP has provided Rs 8 million 73 thousand as compensation for the human casualties and damage to property such as houses, sheds and stored grains in the first five months of the current fiscal. Each family of the deceased was provided one million rupees as compensation. 


Likewise, it has distributed Rs 62 million 544 thousand to the affected families as compensation for the human and physical property losses from the fiscal year 2017/18 to mid-November of fiscal year 2021/22.  


The family of the person receiving minor injuries in wildlife attacks is provided with Rs 307 thousand while the family of the seriously injured persons is given Rs 1 million 316 thousand each.
