KATHMANDU, March 30: The Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has been conferred on the title of honorary general of the Nepal Army by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday.
The title was conferred amid a special function at Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday. Nepal and India have been conferring honorary titles to the chiefs each other's armies since 1950. President Bhandari also decorated the Indian Army Chief with insignia of the Nepal Army.
Rawat arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday on a four-day Nepal visit at the invitation of Chief of Army Staff General Rajendra Chhetri. His visit came just three days after Chinese foreign minister Chang Wanquan concluded a high-profile visit to Nepal.
Indian Army Chief arrives
General Rawat was appointed the 27th Chief of Indian Army Staff on December 17, 2016.
Rawat is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and defense minister Bal Krishna Khand among other top officials. He is also expected to tour places like Pokhara, Manang and Muktinath. General Rawat is also schedule to visit the Pashupatinath temple.
