KHOTANG, March 18: A minor died after drowning in a water-filled pit along the Mahure-Foksingtar road section of Khotang on Saturday.

Tulasa Bishwokarma, a 23 months old infant of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Muncipality-15, Bijayakharka died after falling in the pit, according to ward chief Birendra Dhakal. Reportedly, the contractor had dug a pit at the roadside to collect enough water for the construction of a culvert.

As informed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raj Kumar KC of the District Police Office (DPO), the little girl reached near the water-filled pit while playing and died on the spot. Contractors were using the stored water for the construction work while the locals were using it for cattle and irrigation.


Ward chief Dhakal further said that the contractors had collected the water from a nearby source of water. "It's sad that the child died in the same pit," said Dhakal.
