The current government shutdown was in its third day on Monday. Government shutdowns aren’t all that rare in the United States. Since 1976, there have been 18 shutdowns that lasted an average of almost 7 days, according to data published by Axios. The two most recent ones in 2013 and 1995 even lasted 16 and 21 days. The Senate will vote on Monday at noon on a resolution to fund the government through February 8, to try and end the current impasse.
