KATHMANDU, Nov 22: The Informal Sector Services Center (INSEC) has called on the parties concerned for making the demonstrations said to be held in Kathmandu on November 23 peaceful in accordance with the constitutional provisions.

Issuing a press statement today, INSEC Chair Dr Kundan Aryal has urged the organizers of the Kathmandu-based demonstrations on Thursday to conduct them peacefully in accordance with the constitutional provisions towards that end.

Hold demonstrations peacefully

Citing that republic, federalism and secularism are the key components of the Nepali democracy and sovereignty, INSEC has also expressed its concerns over attempts to 'curtail' the right to freedom to assemble peaceably guaranteed by the Constitution (Article 17).

In view of the demonstrations announced for tomorrow, the Kathmandu and Lalitpur district administration offices have issued prohibitory orders against holding demonstrations, rallies and assemblies of more than five people in some specific areas in accordance with the Local Administration Act 2028 BS. INSEC said the order issued as per the Act dating back to the Panchayat regime is an attempt to squeeze the constitutional right to freedom to assemble peacefully.
