KATHMANDU, Dec 12: The International Universal Health Coverage Day (IUHCD) is being observed by organizing various programs across the country today.
The IUHCD is marked every year on December 12 following the announcement of the UN in 2017 with its resolution 72/138.
The theme for this year is, 'Health for All: Time for Action'.

The United Nations mentioned, "IUHCD aims to raise awareness of the need for strong and resilient health systems and universal health coverage with multi-stakeholder partners. Each year on 12 December, UHC advocates raise their voices to share the stories of the millions of people still waiting for health, champion what we have achieved so far, call on leaders to make bigger and smarter investments in health, and encourage diverse groups to make commitments to help move the world closer to UHC by 2030."
Nepal has also aligned the activities for universal health coverage with sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Chief of Basic Health Management at the Department of Health Service, Dr Pomwati Thapa, informed that the government was organizing review programs along with future plans and creating public awareness about it.
The government has planned phase-wise measures to ensure universal health coverage.
Everyone has the right to access health service, she said, adding that the government's efforts to ensure health service via insurance schemes to the poor, disabled, senior citizens, and conflict victims is also a part of universal health care.
