KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Private sector power producers have demanded the government increase the deadline of the feasibility study period of hydropower projects by an additional two years.
Govt advances study for development of 5,763 megawatt power
Currently, the government has set a deadline of up to five years to carry out the feasibility study of a hydropower project. However, the power producers have sought the government approval to extend the timeline as, according to them, the developers of proposed projects need more time to complete the task.
The Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal (IPPAN), in this regard, requested the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation on Sunday. In a meeting with Madhu Prasad Bhetuwal, joint-secretary of the ministry, IPPAN representatives said many hydropower developers were unable to complete the feasibility study in the set deadline due to the impacts of COVID-19.
