Jajarkot Earthquake: 27 of 36 dead in Rukum West identified

KATHMANDU, Nov 4: Of the 36 people who died in the earthquake in Rukum West, 27 have been successfully identified.


According to the district police office, 18 individuals have been identified in Aathbiskot Municipality, and an additional nine have been identified in Sanibheri Rural Municipality. It's noteworthy that a significant number of the deceased are children.


The identified victims include 14-year-old Ramesh Pun from Aathbiskot Municipality Ward No. 12, 13-year-old Dil Bahadur KC from the same area, 3-year-old Basu Budha from Ward No. 14, 30-year-old Amrita Jaisi from the same locality, 5-year-old Bhawana Jaisi, 2-year-old Dipen Jaisi, 12-year-old Sarita BK, 13-year-old Madan Gautam, and 83-year-old Kare Nepali, as confirmed by the police.

Similarly, 12-year-old Manisha Pariyar, the daughter of Mahabir Damai from Sanibheri Rural Municipality-2, Pariyar Tol, and 31-year-old Dhanbir Pun from Ward No. 1, Chinabagar, are among the identified victims. Additionally, 28-year-old Chumnima Pun, 8-year-old Yamraj Pun, 2-year-old Sitam Pun, and 10-month-old Rejan Wali have also been identified as casualties.


Furthermore, 35-year-old Sheela Kami, 13-year-old Srijana Kami, 9-year-old Riya Kami, 6-year-old Diya Kami, 4-year-old Asha Kami, and 18-month-old Alisa Kami from Ward Number 11 have been confirmed as victims of the earthquake.


The police report also indicates that 30-year-old Kismat Pun Magar, originally from East Rukum and residing in Aathbiskot Municipality-14, as well as 47-year-old Khadga BK and 36-year-old Anil BK, residents of Bardiya who were living in Chhepare, Aathbiskot Municipality-14, also lost their lives in the earthquake.


Moreover, 8-year-old Nirjal Chand, 25-year-old Shakuntala Damai, and 6-year-old Krishna Pariyar from Sanibheri Rural Municipality-4 are among the identified victims.


The police are actively engaged in the rescue of the injured.
