JANAKPURDHAM, July 17: The Janakpur Customs Office has collected revenue as per the annual target. 


According to the Customs Office, Dhanusha, 98.44 percent of the target revenue was collected in the fiscal year 2023/24. Customs Office Chief Rajendra Basnet said that Rs 509.4  million was collected in revenue against the target of Rs 517.5 million.


In the latest public progress report on Tuesday, the Janakpur Customs Office revealed that it collected Rs 508.73 million in revenue. 


Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhuneshwar Tiwari, the Dhanusha police chief, disclosed the details about the works carried out in the fiscal year 2023/24 at a press conference held at the office. 


The Dhanusha Police has collected over Rs 95.6 million in revenue by seizing illegally imported goods, thereby averting customs duty evasion along the Nepal-India border as stated by the police chief.

The report also indicates that in the past three months alone, revenue amounting to over Rs 46.22 million was collected. 


Moreover, the progress report mentions that Rs 367,912 was collected in revenue from timber smuggling - Rs 113,500 in the first nine months and Rs 254,412 in the last three months of the fiscal year. 


Additionally, the police have collected revenue worth Rs 1.58 million by seizing illegally mined ballast sand. Throughout the fiscal year 2023/24, the Dhanusha Police also confiscated 607 kgs of cannabis, with 573 kg seized in the last three months, according to SP Tiwari's report.


Furthermore, the report states that 141.46 grams of brown sugar, 3258 Nitravet tablets, 495 Simplex capsules, 34 Spielen pieces, 26 Penda Zole injections and 3540 Nitrazepam tablets were seized.


In the last fiscal year, 1,145 applications were received at the District Police Office Dhanusha, out of which 602 have been finalized and cases have been filed in 20 applications, while the remainder are still under discussion. 


Dhanusha Police reported that a revenue of Rs 2.383 million has been collected in the last fiscal year by taking action against 28,704 people for breaching traffic rules. 


Additionally, in the last three months, revenue amounting to Rs 2.424 million has been accrued from the sales of 202 abandoned motorcycles found in various places. 


The vehicles found in the past nine months are up for auction.


A total of 8,799 absconding defendants have been apprehended in cases filed at the District Police Office, with a fine of Rs 19.94 million imposed on them. 


Furthermore, a total of 74 CCTV cameras have been installed in Dhanusha in the last fiscal year for maintaining law and order and controlling crime. Notably, in just three months, Police Chief Tiwari installed CCTV cameras at 30 locations.
