Japan to assist construction of Mental Health Therapeutic Center in Pharping

KATHMANDU, Nov 11: Japan has signed a grant contract with a Nepali non-government organization, Koshish for the construction of Mental Health Therapeutic Center in Pharping, Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, Nov 11: Japan has signed a grant contract with a Nepali non-government organization, Koshish for the construction of Mental Health Therapeutic Center in Pharping, Kathmandu.


The Charge d'Affaires of Japan to Nepal, Yoshioka Yuzo and Executive Director of Koshish Matrika Prasad Devkota signed a contract for the construction of the Therapeutic Center under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of the Japanese Government. The grant amount equals USD 296,856 (approximately Rs 35.36 million).

According to a press statement issued by the embassy of Japan in Kathmandu, the project aims to enhance therapeutic services for abandoned women with mental health and psychosocial disabilities by constructing a mental health therapeutic center to provide them treatment in a safe environment.


At the online grant signing ceremony, Yoshioka said that he is hopeful that the assistance will contribute toward enhancing better therapeutic services for women suffering from mental health issues. The project is expected to enable women with mental health issues to live independently and with dignity after receiving improved therapeutic services.


Koshish is a non-governmental organization that has been working since 2008 to ensure persons with psychological disabilities are able to live independently with dignity, and are included in the community as equals. It has been running a transit home for women to support their recovery from mental illnesses.
