KATHMANDU, Feb 15: Japan has agreed to provide grant assistance of Rs 4539 million for the Project for Improvement of Water Supply in Pokhara.
Issuing a press release, the Ministry of Finance informed that secretary Shanta Raj Subedi and Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Masashi Ogawa signed the exchange of notes on Wednesday while Baikuntha Aryal, the joint secretary at International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division and chief representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Jun Sakuma signed the grant agreement.

According to the ministry, the project aims to improve water supply services in Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan city and to increase revenue of Nepal Water Supply Corporation through the construction of water treatment facilities, improvement of distribution systems including reservoirs and procuring customer meters.
Ministry of Water Supply and Sanitation will be the counterpart ministry and Nepal Water Supply Corporation will be responsible to implement the project. According to the Ministry of Finance, the project will have the capacity to filter 40.2 million liter of water every day and it is expected to be completed by December 2022.
