PARSA, June 9: Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Chapter in Parsa today took out a demonstration in Birgunj calling for action against those misbehaving with journalists on the pretext of writing news stories.
The journalists were protesting the attack on FNJ Parsa Vice President, Anup Tiwari, and demanding justice.
The rally taken out from Ghantahgar intersection in Birgunj went around Maisthan, Mahavirsthan, Aadarshanagar and Mina Bazaar before returning to Ghantaghar where it converged into a corner meeting.
Addressing the meeting, FNJ Parsa Chapter's President, Shyam Banjara, said the attack on journalist Tiwari for writing news was condemnable. He said the journalists were forced to head out into the streets for defense of right to expression after the police administration did not address their written and verbal appeals for investigation into the attack and action against the guilty.
On June 5, journalist Tiwari was attacked while having a lunch at Chapkaiya in Birgunj. A written application had been written for action against Sujit Giri, Ejaj Babu Ranki and Krishna Charasiya accused of thrashing the journalist.
Banjara said the FNJ, Press Chautari Nepal and Press Union among other organizations were planning to come up with different agitation programmes including hunger strike against the police administration as the perpetrators were not being brought to justice four days after the incident.
