Judo championship from Aug 12

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Nepal Judo Association (NJA) is set to organize Eighth Ambika Bahadur Chhetri Memorial Open Judo Championship from August 12 to 14. On the sidelines, NJA will also host the referee and caching seminar. All the events will be held in International Sports Complex, Satdobato, in the Kathmandu Valley.

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Nepal Judo Association (NJA) is set to organize Eighth Ambika Bahadur Chhetri Memorial Open Judo Championship from August 12 to 14. On the sidelines, NJA will also host the referee and caching seminar. All the events will be held in International Sports Complex, Satdobato, in the Kathmandu Valley.


Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Monday, NJA’s president Deepak Harsha Bajracharya said that a total of 140 players in 16 weight categories of both men’s and women’s sections will participate in the championship.

The championship to be held in the memory of NJA’s former vice-president late Ambika Bahadur Chhetri will feature the weight categories ranging from U-55 kg to 100 kg in men’s sections and U-44 kg to 78 kg in women’s section. Meanwhile, this tournament will also act as a qualifying event for national team players. Likewise, champions in the men’s and women’s U-90 kg category will be selected to participate in the Fifth International Judo Tournament to be held in Dushanbe of Tajikistan later this year. 


At the press meet, Bajracharya informed that the total budget of the competition was Rs 500,000 and the family of Chhetri has provided Rs 175, 000.
