The National Paddy Day is being observed today across the country. It is celebrated annually on Asadha 15 as per the Nepali calendar. It holds a great significance for the common people since the national economy is dominated by agriculture. Asadha 15 marks the beginning of paddy plantation in monsoon season in Nepal.
Self-proclaimed Goddess remanded into custody for a week
After her arrest for brutally beating a woman, self-proclaimed Goddess, ‘Dharti Maata’ has been remanded into custody for further investigation. She was charged for misbehaving and manhandling a woman on the Bhadrakali premises. The woman was arrested on Friday morning from Balaju. She was identified as Bishnu Kunwar.

NC lawmaker registers amendment proposal on fiscal year budget of MoWS
Nepali Congress lawmaker Anita Devkota registered an amendment proposal on the fiscal year budget of the Ministry of Water Supply (MoWS) on Sunday. The government had allocated money for the purpose of fuel for the government vehicles in the fiscal year budget unveiled earlier this month.
Modernization of agriculture to reduce unemployment: PM Oli
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said modernization of agriculture was imperative to reduce unemployment in the country. Modernization of agriculture creates new jobs, so improvement and commercialization in agriculture is a current need. According to him, the government had declared to provide employment opportunities to additional 500,000 people in the current fiscal year for which he pressed for collaboration among the local, provincial and federal government as well as the private sector for job creations in the country.
Nepali Cricket Team for T20 World Cup Qualifier announced
Nepali cricket team will play in the ICC T20 world cup qualifier to be held in Singapore. Paras Khadka will lead the team. A squad-list of 14 players was announced today. The players are currently practicing in a closed training camp. The qualifiers will be held from July 22 to 28. Hosts Singapore, Nepal, Malaysia, Qatar, and Kuwait will vie to book a place for the further rounds.
Vietnam, EU sign landmark free trade deal
The European Union signed a landmark free trade deal with Vietnam on Sunday, the first of its kind with a developing country in Asia, paving the way for tariff reductions on 99% of goods between the trading bloc and Southeast Asian country. It still needs the approval of the European Parliament, which is not a given as some lawmakers are concerned about Vietnam’s human rights record.
