Kailali faces critical blood supply deficit

KAILALI, June 30: The stock of blood is decreasing in the regional blood transfusion service center run by the Nepal Red Cross Society in Dhangadhi.


According to Dharanidhar Pant, the head of the center, if a patient suddenly asks for blood, it is not possible to get it immediately.


Patients from the hilly districts of the Sudurpaschim Province come to Dhangadhi for treatment of various diseases and they may need immediate blood.

Relatives of patients admitted to the hospital for treatment have to suffer in search of blood.


Lately, the blood donation programs in the district have been on a decline. Relatives of patients are failing to find fresh donors from their own sides,” he said, “Even though we are trying to find blood donors, it is slow to get blood easily.”


Meanwhile, some patients’ surgery has been delayed due to the lack of blood on time.


Around 50 to 60 units of blood have been supplied daily from the center.
