KATHMANDU, March 23: Tanka Bahadur Karki has taken lead after the first round of the eighth Nepal Open Amateur Golf Championship at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club on Wednesday.
Karki carded two-under 70 to take one-stroke lead over the defending champion Tashi Tshiring who played one-under 71. Wangchen Dhondup is at even-par 72. Sukra Bahadur Rai carded three-over 75 on third. Sunil KC and Subash Tamang are at four-over 76. Ajit BK, Niraj Tamang and Surendra Phuyal are at five-over 77. Binod Tamang, Yubraj Bhujel and Bangladeshi Md Shahabuddin are at six-over 78.

Likewise, in team event, Nepal A represented by Karki (70) and Rai (75) is leading with the total score of 145. Nepal C comprising Yubraj Bhujel (78) and Tamang (77) are at 155. Bangladesh team represented by Shahabuddin (78) and Md Sumon (79) are at 157.
A total of five teams- three from Nepal and one each from Bhutan and Bangladesh-are taking part in the team event that will be played over 36 holes.
The 54-hole tournament is organized by Nepal Golf Association (NGA) with the sponsorship of Mountain Sports Federation a body under the aegis of National sports council (NSC). The event is being promoted by Nepal Tourism Board and Phiten is the sports recovery partner.
